BMW U.K. Confirm to Join In Scrappage Incentives

BMW is the latest manufacturer to confirm that they will be participating in the scrappage scheme announced in yesterday’s budget.

The scheme to offer £2,000 towards the purchase a new car to motorists who trade in a car of 10 years or older, expected to be introduced from next month requires manufacturers participating to stump up 50 per cent of the money for the incentive and requires them to dispose of the old vehicle in an environmentally-friendly way.

BMW will match the government’s £1,000 contribution to make total saving of £2,000 off a new BMW or MINI.

To see how the new scrappage incentive will affect new car buyers, a BMW 116i Sport (rated four stars on RoadTestReports.co.uk) will be available with the scheme discount and dealership discount amounting to £3,260 meaning that a new model can be bought for just £13,960.

The BMW 116i has class-leading economy and low CO2 emissions and, like all other EfficientDynamic-equipped BMWs, makes excellent financial sense too.

A zero to 62mph time of 9.8 seconds and output of 122hp results in a car that is also fun to drive.

BMW has a long established recycling network to ensure that scrapped cars are handled responsibly.

The Authorised Treatment Facilities, operated by ‘Autogreen’, will ensure that these vehicles will be treated and recycled correctly.
