Sypker Teases C8 Aileron Supercar Ahead Geneva 2009

The new Dutch supercar is expected to adhere closely to the concept's design.

Concept cars are exciting, but as often as not, they're also huge letdowns. Why? Because you just know they'll be so neutered by the time they make production that it's the same car only in name - take for example the Chevy Volt.

But at a company like Spyker, where the production cars are more insane than most concepts, we have an exception that proves the rule, so there's hope yet for the production C8 Aileron, teased for the first time today.

The C8 Aileron concept car made its debut at last year's Geneva Motor Show, looking ready to roll onto the streets, and in just a couple of weeks, it will do exactly that.

Power is expected to come from an Audi-sourced 4.2L V8 rated at about 400hp (298kW), with shifting duties laid on either a Getrag manual or ZF auto gearbox.

The automatic will be Spyker's first, though it's not expected to hamper the car's 4.5-second run to 60mph (96km/h) nor its top speed of 187mph (300km/h).

Inside, the concept C8 Aileron gets a Kharma sound system, GPS navigation, and all the standard modern electronics connectivity - Bluetooth, mp3, etc.

The trademark engine turned aluminum dash will be present, plus 19" Aeroblade wheels and a quilted leather cockpit. All of these are expected to translate fairly directly to the production car, as hinted at in the teaser image.

The C8 Aileron will be unveiled March 3, 10:15 a.m. local time in Geneva, Switzerland. Series production is expected to kick off in May, with sales following shortly thereafter.
